Osi Umenyiora knights Washington Redskins QB “Sir Robert Griffin III”

It’s not every day that Osi Umenyiora finds a new level of profound respect for the New York Giants’ NFC East rivals, but Washington Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III, who received much disdain from the defensive end during the offseason, made the list.
The British-born Osi Umenyiora scrapped the self-proposed nickname “Bob” for Robert Griffin III and instead knighted him on Thursday.
“Sir. His name is Sir Robert Griffin,” Osi Umenyiora added the title to Robert Griffin III’s name. “That is what I refer to him now.”
In July, Osi Umenyiora tried to put the rookie quarterback Robert Griffin III back in his place after his much cooler nickname “RG3” started catching-on with the masses. Osi Umenyiora claimed Robert Griffin III could only earn the nickname “when he does anything in the league.” Instead, during a radio interview Osi Umneyiora tried to launch the nickname “Bob” for Robert Griffin III, the rookie who hadn’t even taken snaps by then.
Robert Griffin III stated he “didn’t mind at all” the veteran Osi Umenyiora’s new recommended nickname since he hadn’t   given himself the old RG3 moniker too; although his father preferred people didn’t call the rookie Bob.
However, Osi Umenyiora was more accepting of the RG3 nickname following the Washington Redskins Robert Griffin III’s preseason-opener win over the New Orleans Saints.
And now five games and week’s worth of tape breakdowns later, Osi Umenyiora believes the 2012 Drafts’ 2nd overall pick Robert Griffin III has earned his respect.
“Look at the way he’s performed as a rookie,” said Osi Umenyiora. “You don’t see players come into the league performing like that at that stage in their career, so all the respect in the world goes to him.”
The Washington Redskins are 3-3 in the season, headed against the New York Giants this Sunday. Robert Griffin III is one of their most formidable offensive weapons, leading the league with 70.2 pass completion rate and showcasing sudden burst of speed with a 76-yard dash to the end zone last Sunday.
“Ridiculous,” Osi Umenyiora stated of Robert Griffin III’s run against the Minnesota Vikings. “You saw guys who were known as fast guys just trailing behind him, and you saw him blazing down the football field.”
“Whatever he wants to be called,” continued Osi Umenyiora, “he’s earned that for sure.”
New York Giants defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul warned Robert Griffin III against heading his way at Sunday’s game.
"Don’t bring it to my side,” said Jason Pierre-Paul on Wednesday. “Don’t bring it. Go the other way."
Although Osi Umenyiora echoed the same the same statement on Thursday, the two-time Pro-Bowler’s reasons largely differed from his teammate.
“I hope he doesn’t come to my side. Hopefully they’ll be able to go somewhere else,” said Osi Umenyiora. “I don’t want no parts of that myself. He’s just a phenomenal football player.”
“This guy is good,” Osi Umenyiora stated of Robert Griffin III. “They've got a real good player on their hands, and we've got a problem on ours."
