Ouch! Nick Saban, Alabama Lose to 24 1/2 Underdog Louisiana-Monroe

It's good thing Alabama opted not to build that statue of Nick Saban prior to completing his first season. Chalk up a third straight loss for the Crimson Tide and a bad one at that to UL-Monroe, a 24 1/2 point underdog proudly occupying 4th place in the prestigious Sun-Belt.

Right now Alabama has just as many wins as they had a year ago under "awful" coach Mike Shula. Just sayin'.

Louisiana Monroe 21, Alabama 14

Yeah, Saban comes into alabama and has done a great job for one year. After seeing what Saban and his coaches have done this year with recruiting we will see how well alabama does in the next few years!! one year, and auburn fans are already talking more crap than ever. im not saying we are going to beat auburn, but ill stand behind my team (ROLLTIDE!) no matter what happens!

Despite my comments above, I obviously still think Saban is a great coach but I'm hoping Alabama fans realize Shula wasn't the names he was called.

Shula didn't have a backbone.  He would whine and sulk over a loss like this (and he had quite a few).  At least Saban acts like it's his fault.  I don't want to be an Alabama football player for the next couple of days.  Saban might be working on their "concentration" for a day or two.

Games like this happen.  I hate it when it does and it shouldn't happen.  But it happened way to often with Shula.  I'm willing to bet a loss like this won't happen too many times with Saban around.

I heard Saban speaking to a reporter at halftime and he had some words for our QB in the interview.  He doesn't normally call out individual players when they have a bad game (or 3), but he did it today.  He said it's hard to move the ball and win games when you can't throw the ball with confidence.  I think it's safe to say John Parker Wilson will not be the automatic starting QB for the Tide next season.

With all of this being said, I think the adrenaline and "new coach" buzz has worn off.  Saban has milked this team for as much as he could.  It is not a very good team, especially on defense, but he made them play better than they actually are for about 8 weeks.   I think next season will be about the same, maybe a little better with some of the new recruits coming in and getting in the system, and the returning players getting used to the new coaching staff.  I'm not gonna lie, 2 seasons from now, everybody in Bama nation will be expecting big things from Saban and this staff.  I think we will see the SEC west titles start coming in along with some SEC championships.  We just have to be patient.  We are dealing with an extreme makeover here.

Yeah man, you hit the nail right on the head! I'm very impressed with this years recruiting class. top 5 ini the nation i believe. John Parker will have to get on his game this off season, because its said that his backup qb is already better than he is, and star jackson the freshman coming in for 08 is the number 2 dual threat qb in the nation. hes going to have some tough talent to deal with this off season!!

Every game I went to this year, everyone was wondering when Greg McElroy was going to get some reps in.  I know it was a blowout, but he looked great in the Western Carolina game.  Extremely calm and a very nice touch on the ball.  Between Star Jackson and Nick Fanuzzi, JP is going to battle his butt off to get the starting nod next season.  Hell, he better work his tail off this week in practice if he wants to play the entire Auburn game.  I don't know if I'm more excited or dreading next weeks game.  6 in-a-row is too scary and realistic, considering how we have played the past 2 weeks.

That is a very good possibility.  On the other hand, I wonder if the suspension to DJ Hall had something to do with everyone's mentality during the ULM game.  It sounded like they had their heads up their asses the entire game (except the defense..they played pretty good).  Either way, it will all be forgotten if we win this Saturday.  That's a given.
