He's probably preparing already for his new job, as he'll be responsible for monitoring poker-related issues and events in New Hampshire, as well as alerting the national PPA office to emerging trends or issues. Not to mention he's going to occupy the leading position regarding the PPA activities in the state. Fleming will also have to deal with all the local news stories or legislation, as well as quickly mobilize his fellow local PPA members to attend poker-related events or rallies. This won't be such a problem, as he must already have a bunch of poker addicts friends.
According to a recent press release, Fleming will also be charged with recruiting individuals to join the PPA, by contacting their elected officials and serving as a spokesman for local media. Furthermore, in the future, the PPA plans to help state directors set up state PPA committees, in order to strengthen the organization's efforts.
Who is Mr. Fleming? First of all, he is a PPA member since 2006. Then, he is said to be one of the 50 state directors chosen from a pool of more than 1,000 applicants. And that's really big!
He says: "Pretty much like everybody, I played poker as a young man. I played with my dad as a kid and his buddies, played in college." Today, he traded college fun for serious casino stuff: If you're going to go to a casino, why not play the only game not against the house and where skill can actually make a difference and make you a winner?" he added.
Fleming has also confirmed being an enraged poker player. He spends three or four nights a week playing online poker. He even admitted visiting the Seabrook Greyhound Park every once in a while to play some good charity poker tournament, as well as ocassionaly visiting Foxwoods resort to play some more. He also takes regular vacation poker spree to Vegas. He's the perfect guy for this job!
In addition, Fleming says there are about 5,500 PPA members in the state: “Poker is extremely popular everywhere. It's America's game and it's regaining popularity ... (My) basic duty at this point is to grow the organization."
Executive Director, John Pappas said that state directors for all 50 states were appointed at that from 1,050 applicants nationwide and that Fleming applied for the position of state director last year during the organization's resurgence. Great timing!
Pappas addded: "Many gave compelling essays, some were better than others. We put a lot of weight on those individuals who had previous grassroots experience ... (Fleming's) position as state director was really a renewal of his already active role in the state."
Today, the PPA counts about 950,000 members nationwide. Their mission is to promote the game of poker and protect people's rights to play in various forms. Moreover, besides naming state directors, the PPA is soon going to launch its Litigation Support Network, heading by Fleming himself.
The official PPA press release also informs that the PPA's Litigations Support Network will provide PPA members with a free and legal resource it needs when planning to organize a charity poker tournament, start a poker league or, in “the worst case scenario, get arrested.”
So, if you happen to get arrested and you're a PPA member, you know what you have to do! You dial the numeber of Litigation Support Network, or go to the PPA website and obtain free, preliminary legal advice over the phone. Ain't that great or what?
