For a better worldwide management and nationwide reach, the Poker Players Alliance (PPA) group has recently tapped 50 news loyal members to serve as PPA directors for their respective states. It’s not about control freak maneuver, not at all!

Apparently, the State Directors program itself is an integrant part of the organization's wide strategy to become a real player in both national and state-level policy debates. According to PPA Chairman Former Senator Alfonse D'Amato: "With close to one million members, the PPA is fortunate to have a dedicated and active membership base, but we need eyes and ears on the ground to help us. With the state directors program, we will have a leader in each state who can update us on local news stories or legislation and who can quickly mobilize their fellow local PPA members to help carry the PPA banner in their home state. We are proud of the state directors we have named today and look forward to working with them."

However, the whole process wasn't so simple as you may think, as all the 50 state directors were carefully chosen from over 1000 different applicants. Furthermore, they are not only active PPA members, as each of them is an important leader in their communities who can advocate anytime, on behalf of the PPA. Praise the PPA!

As for their precise tasks, each state director will be responsible for monitoring poker-related issues and events in his state and alert the national PPA regarding any new trend or issue.

Moreover, they will also be given specific task to recruit individuals to join the PPA. I can even imagine them going from door to door like Avon ladies! They will also organize communities of local PPA members to attend poker-related events or rallies in their states. Each director will contact their elected officials and serve as a spokesperson for the local media. This is not going to be a problem, since their social profile already involves “theatrical” appearances in media.

But, PPA has also some pretty big plans for the near future, trying to help state directors set up state PPA committees to “further strengthen the organization's grassroots efforts”.

You should also know the State Directors program is one big juicy slice of the large PPA's rather “aggressive” campaign, which tries to increase the member benefits. According to, the PPA will also be launching a political action committee (PAC), a voter registration campaign, a new website and new membership incentives later this spring.
