Another week ended and Edinson Cavani is still at Napoli. Nonetheless, the striker has never before been so closely linked with an away move. Top notch clubs from around Europe; such as Chelsea, Manchester City, Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain are ready to break their banks over the Uruguayan goalscoring machine.
Real Madrid are hot-favorites for his signature, but they are being closely tailed by Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain. The French club’s sporting director Leonardo claims his side will soon have the striker under their colors.
Leonardo revealed that the negotiations were heading in a positive direction and by the looks of it the 26-year-old striker will soon be at Parc des Princes. Despite reports of Real Madrid edging closer to Edinson Cavani, Leonardo is sure his side will beat the Spanish football giants for the Uruguayan’s hit-man’s services.
Leonardo, who currently on vacations at Ischia (a town near Naples), has reportedly held talks with the Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis. Speculation about Paris Saint-Germain swooping in for Edinson Cavani grows, yet Napoli hasn’t talked about interest shown by the Ligue 1 champions.
Leonardo believes Paris Saint-Germain are very close confirming the deal. Meanwhile, the new Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho is keen on signing in Edinson Cavani as well. The Portuguese tactician is an avid fan of the Uruguayan striker since his time with Real Madrid.
The president of Palermo Maurizio Zamparini told Radio Radio that the deal was already inked and agreed. Reports from French news outlets also suggest similar headlines. It is believed the transfer will be announced on the Tuesday of this week.
In an interview to Il Mattino on Sunday, Leonardo admitted he was confident about Paris Saint-Germain sealing a deal with Napoli over Edinson Cavani. Leonardo didn’t give a date for the official announcement of the transfer, but he did say there will be “news in the coming days”.
“We presented De Laurentiis with an offer that I consider to be very interesting,” Leonardo said. “The negotiations are ongoing. We’re still in contact and there could be news in the coming days.”
