PSG star Thiago Silva returns for mouthwatering game against Barcelona
Paris Saint-Germain center-back Thiago Silva admits he desires to move into Barcelona. The Brazilian defender confessed he had always been a Barcelona fan at heart and could potentially move into the Catalan club sometime in the future.
The 28-year-old will win the Ligue 1 title with Paris Saint-Germain this season. The Paris Saint-Germain star, who has been cleared to face Barcelona for Wednesday’s Champions League quarterfinal second leg, was heavily linked with a move to Nou Camp last summer.
The switch to Barcelona didn’t turn into reality, yet Thiago Silva did make a big money switch by sealing a €42 million transfer deal from AC Milan to Paris Saint-Germain.
Thiago Silva claims the calling from his boyhood club will force him to keep pushing for a move to Barcelona. The Brazilian also informed that he moved to Paris Saint-Germain to complete a promise to his ex-Milan coach Leonardo, who is the Director of Sport at Paris Saint-Germain these days.
“There were conversations with my agent, but we had given our word to Leonardo, who I knew from Milan,” Thiago Silva told Mundo Deportivo. “Once I gave my word, it was difficult to pull back. But you never know what might happen in the future. People dream.
“I have always been a Barca fan since I was a boy, when they had Romario, Rivaldo, Ronaldo... I am their No. 1 fan. After Wednesday, I will continue to be. I am happy at the moment at PSG, and I hope to keep helping this project.”
Thiago Silva also revealed that there was a release clause in his contract which could end his career with the Ligue 1 leaders, if Barcelona wanted to bring him to Spain.
“I have just arrived here [at PSG], I am not thinking about that, my agent looks after those things,” Thiago Silva said. “But the people know that such bureaucratic things can be resolved in some way. “When you sign a contract, you expect to fulfill it, but this depends on a lot of things. You never close the door as you do not know what might happen. I am happy now, but you can never speak about the future.”
