But there's also something else that makes September special, or not, depending on how you view this stuff.
It's rookie hazing month! Yes, as the rosters expand, and minor leaguers get called up to the bigs, they are required to take part in the annual rookie hazing hilarity that goes on every year.
Today's winners, or more appropriately, losers, are the Padres and the Red Sox.
Here are the Padres rookies, all decked out in Hooters goodness.

And naturally, you need to get a group picture, primarily so fans can mock you. Just so you know, the rookies also had to wear these outfits on a plane flight from Denver to DC. Yikes.

The Red Sox rookies, in all honesty, probably got off easier than the Padres rookies.

This picture to your right might be the greatest rookie hazing photo ever though. In 2006, Rangers rookie John Rheinecker forgot his passport and was unable to make a trip to Toronto, so he was sent back to the hotel after a game in Oakland. But it wasn't quite that simple. His punishment was that he had to ride BART (Bay Area Rapid Transit) in a penguin suit. Trust me, as a Bay Area guy, you don't want to have to do anything like this, ever.
Plenty more of these pictures will be circulating the Web in the coming weeks. We'll be sure to bring you the most hilarious ones.
