The New York Giants and the Carolina Panthers have faced each other six times in history, with each side grabbing three victories. Therefore, this round will decide the winner of their seventh showdown.
Many are siding with New York Giants to win the game. Well, they did defeat the Carolina Panthers when they last met which was in Week 1 of the 2010 season. However, the Carolina Panthers are much stronger than they appear.
Carolina Panthers star quarterback Cam Newton is in deadly form these days. Cam Newton has been a flash with his arms and legs this season. Undoubtedly, Cam Newton is one of the toughest players to defend against in the NFL. The 23-year-old is built like a linebacker, which is why Cam Newton has little trouble throwing or running around.
New York Giants head coach Tom Coughlin is wary of Cam Newton offensive powers. Tom Coughlin reporters that the New York Giants will have to eliminate his run game to increase their chances of success.
“Well, you’d like to be able to eliminate the run game and the option game, but he’s a very accurate passer as well and when he stands in there, he obviously does a very good job and he certainly spreads the ball around, so it’s a challenge. No doubt,” Tom Coughlin said.
In the two games Cam Newton has played in the regular season he has completed 37 of his 53 passes for 556 yards. Cam Newton has also passed for two touchdowns.
Cam Newton is surprisingly fast for his huge frame. The overall first pick from the 2011 NFL Drafts is huge in comparison to a regular sized quarterback. Tom Coughlin admits his side will find it difficult to overcome Cam Newton physically.
“Well, certainly he’s powerful and he can run through an arm tackle, no doubt, and he’s physically strong enough to withstand the blows that come from rushing the football. Yeah. Sure. There’s different-sized athletes. This guy is big and strong and fast,” Tom Coughlin said.
The New York Giants will travel to the Bank of America Stadium on Thursday to play against the Carolina Panthers.
