Papa Johns Gets Blowback For LeBron Crybaby Shirts

Papa Johns Decides To Kill Off All Of Its Cleveland Area Business

Papa Johns Gets Blowback For LeBron Crybaby Shirts Photo As anyone who followed the Wizards/Cavs playoff series knows, it wasn't exactly a harmonious affair. DeShawn Stevenson had a few back-and-forths with LeBron, Darius Songaila was suspended for Game 6 for "hitting" LeBron in the face, and on top of all this, LeBron started to get the reputation for being a bit of a whiner.

Anyway, as a result of LeBron's whining, Papa Johns pizza in DC apparently began selling t-shirts that had a 23 on them (LeBron's number) with the word "crybaby" emblazoned on it - and a number of people were spotted wearing the shirt at Game 6.

There's nothing wrong with that, of course. Papa Johns has a right to go after Ohio's most popular athlete ever. And it's not like they need to worry about pissing people off in that state because it's not like Papa Johns has any stores in Cleveland or anything.

Oh wait, yes they do.

According to the food blog So Good,  there are 10 different Papa John’s pizza stores within just 12 miles of the Cleveland Cavaliers arena.

One store in Ohio said their business was booming for most of Game 6 and then suddenly the orders just died. They also got a few pissed off faxes about the shirt and also got threats of a boycott.

What a great marketing campaign.

Anyway, I advise everyone, everywhere to continue to inform Cleveland fans that Papa Johns hates their favorite athlete. I want a full scale Ohio boycott of Papa Johns.

Now, you may be wondering why I want to put Papa Johns out of business. It's easy, their pizza sucks.

+1 thumbs up

I think its something in the sauce.  After you eat Papa John's you can't get that awful taste out of your mouth for like 3 hours.  I like the garlic butter stuff but not enough to eat the awful pizza.

Yeah, this was a bad move, made by one individual franchise owner, from DC, obviously a bigtime Wizards fan, overjoyed & going nuts that his team made the playoffs, and who didn't fathom that Ohio fans would see this as Papa John's corporate, not the DC franchise owner doing it.  I'm sure he only thought that DC fans would see it, and love it, and never thought about the awful consequence that he might hurt the Ohio Papa John's, or PJ corporation as a whole.

Yes, it was pretty dumb to print up these T-shirts.  This is a NBA team, & certainly won't look like just a college fraternity prank or a college rivalry, where alot more slack would be given.  But give the guy a break.  He's just an intense fan (read fanatic).
