Recapping college hoops almost daily throughout the season ...St. Mary's (CA) 99, #11 Oregon 87Yet another freshman name to remember: Patty Mills, a freshman from Australia, scored 37 points pacing the Gaels all night in a tough atmosphere for the Ducks. As one of the 5% who picked the upset, I can't say this is entirely surprising. For starters, St. Mary's is this good and will give Gonzaga a run in the WCC. Secondly, Oregon is going to lose a few games they shouldn't because they aren't playing a whole lot of defense. When Tajuan Porter is shooting 4-14 that doesn't bode well, either.

It may be November but I'm already going to pencil in the Bruins for a trip to San Antonio. Add Darren Collison and a Kevin Love with a season's worth of experience and UCLA may add another title to their extensive history. MSU was also a little short-handed, but at times showed us what kind of team they'll be all season. Last season's Achilles heel - turnovers - destroyed a late lead yet again for Tom Izzo. When they're not busy throwing it away, you'll find the Spartans are one of most efficient offensive teams in the country. Good win for UCLA, good "growing" games for Michigan State.

Dukies continue to play much better than I though they would this early. Gerald Henderson filled it up with 23 points, a total I'm surprised he hasn't reach more often. Should be a hell of a battle tonight against ...

I think it was Gottlieb who said "and it wasn't even this close." He was right. Clinic. Clinic on how to play defense and rebound. If the Golden Eagles bring the same effort tonight, I'll go with Marquette.
Any other thoughts on the night in college hoops?
