The Lakers only visit to the new Barclay’s Center turned out to be a sour victory Tuesday evening as the struggling Los Angeles Lakers beat the Brooklyn Nets 92-83.  Even though the Lakers beat the playoff bound Nets, they lost their lone big man – Pau Gasol – to a torn plantar fascia in his right foot.  Gasol has been battling plantar fasciitis for almost the entire season, but Gasol may have completely torn it in the fourth quarter.  Gasol said that he felt a “pop” in his right foot and will now be scheduled for a MRI this Wednesday in Boston.  Gasol was seen leaving the Barclay Center on crutches.

The injury plagued Lakers have already been playing without center Dwight Howard, therefore losing Pau Gasol comes as a big blow for an esteemed franchise that hasn't missed the playoffs since the ’04-’05 season.

After the game Kobe said,” I'm very, very concerned, to say the least.”

The Lakers will now put Antawn Jamison at the power forward position and Robert Sacre at the center spot, until Gasol and Howard return.

The good news is that Ron Artest has served his one game suspension after punching Detroit Piston point guard Brandon Knight and Dwight Howard shouldn’t be out too much longer with his torn labrum, however, Pau Gasol may be out up to a month depending on the severity of his injury.  Unless the Lakers miraculously get healthy or make a major trade, the odds that the purple and gold making the playoffs this year may be slim to none.
