Wednesday morning wasn’t the first time Pau Gasol woke up to think about whether he should continue his career at the Los Angeles Lakers. Back in May last year, the Los Angeles Lakers were thinking about getting rid of Paul Gasol. It’s interesting to see how the tables have turned, since its Paul Gasol who is now thinking about leaving the Los Angeles Lakers.
The drama surrounding Pau Gasol’s injury and the star’s hostile relationship with the Los Angeles Lakers sparked fresh speculation about his exit on Sunday morning. Reportedly, Pau Gasol is considering a trade out if the Los Angeles Lakers decide not to axe coach Mike D’Antoni and center Dwight Howard.
All of this might be very un-Pau-Gasol-like, yet it is what the LA star wants. In an interview to the Los Angeles Times, Pau Gasol revealed all the issues he has had with the Los Angeles Lakers in recent history. Pau Gasol also talked about the problems (mostly based on lack of understanding) he has had with Mike D’Antoni.
“Nothing is going to change, but I have no doubt we can coexist and dominate every single game. I believe 100% if I was starting inside with Dwight we could make the playoffs. I just don't know if coming off the bench gives the team a chance to be better and win more games,” Pau Gasol said.
Paul Gasol also talked about how his teammates and Los Angeles Lakers fans considered Jim Buss (son of Jerry Buss, franchise owner) to be an unwanted guest in the team’s entourage. According to Pau Gasol, Jim Buss has been hanging out with the team to make Dwight Howard happy.
“It would be hard for me to deal with another season,” Pau Gasol when he was questioned about his future at the Los Angeles Lakers.
Pau Gasol admitted he couldn’t rule out the possibility of starting out fresh next season.
“It's a possibility. Yes,” Pau Gasol said. “I'm not a quitter. Just because things look on the other side of the fence. I'm not going to take the easy way out. I have a certain level of loyalty here, and I've been through a lot of great, amazing things. And there have been others that have been hurtful. But that's life.”
