Paul Hornung seems like an affable fellow, the kind of guy you'd like to sit next to on a bar stool and listen to his countless stories. We're well aware of Hornung's prowess on the field, the 1956 Heisman Trophy winner and 1961 NFL MVP to his credit, but what we keep hearing about these days is Hornung's prowess off the field.
There's countless stories of the Golden Boy's many rendezvous, including this one from Sandy Sullivan, one of my favorites. A true ladies' man he was.
Hornung was on Sporting News Radio the other day, and once again talking about his escapades with teammate Max McGee when he was asked:
“You guys had a great life, but I don’t think you could live that lifestyle today.”You can probably guess how he responded:
"Oh hell you could. You’re in such good shape, are you crazy? When you’re 24-years-old, you weigh 215 pounds, you can work out every day of your life, you could make love to five girls a week and play 44 games of football. Hell.”Hell. Fair to assume he never used the stiff arm off the field.
Hornung also advised that today's players "don't get on the Internet." Hell. Easier said than done, Paul. After all, there are beer bongs to take down.
I doubt most players are living the same life as Hornung today, but for those who aspire to follow in his footsteps, we suggest you put a cap on it. Yes, we're looking at you Travis Henry. Hell.
