The home streak of this series wasn't broken, but we finally got an entertaining game as the Boston Celtics advance to their first East Finals since 1988. The game turned into a battle between Paul Pierce and LeBron James, a battle that reminded everyone of the famed Bird-Wilkins tilt twenty years ago. Like that year, the result was simliar. LeBron won the scoring battle with Pierce 45-41, but the Celtics won the game. The difference in this one was the end. The Cavs didn't execute 100% down the stretch: West's wide open three point miss, the poor shot LeBron took, the missed free throw from LeBron. Meanwhile, the Celtics stayed calm and hit all their free throws when they needed it, including one by Pierce that bounced off the rim and stayed in the air for what seemed like an eternity.
We now get the East Finals that everyone assumed would happen since at least February, Boston vs. Detroit. The Celtics get home court again. Can they keep this run of win at home, lose on the road going, or will they need to win at the Palace to advance to the Finals?
