Blog Photo - Paulina Gretzky was featured on the cover of Golf Digest, much to the chagrin of LPGA athletesGolf Digest just released a "fitness" issue of sorts, in what was a rather transparent effort designed for no other reason than to justify putting Wayne Gretzky's attractive daughter on the cover.

Paulina Gretzky is dating PGA golfer Dustin Johnson, so she certainly has a tangential connection to the sport of golf.

But of course, some LPGA athletes are less than thrilled that she's getting the cover instead of an established female professional golfer, many of whom are also attractive and have made their own appearances on magazine covers.

Stacey Lewis is the 3rd ranked golfer in the world: "It's frustrating for female golfers. It's the state of where we've always been. We don't get the respect for being the golfers we are. Obviously, Golf Digest is trying to sell magazines, but at the same time you like to see a little respect for the women's game."

Juli Inkster has played professionally for 29 years, and has 40 wins: "It's Golf Digest, it's not Sports Illustrated's swimsuit issue. I think they should maybe recognize some of the great women golfers that we have. It's like, what do you have to do to get a little respect? I'm guaranteeing you right now, it was not a woman editor who chose that cover."

Inbee Park has been the #1 ranked player in the world for almost a year: "That's just been the way it is for over 20, 30 years. We are trying to get closer to the guys, but obviously we are never going to get there. That's for sure. The LPGA is getting better and better."

They obviously have a point, but I can also understand the counterpoint. Golf Digest wants to sell magazines, and Paulina Gretzky can certainly help do that.
