Paxson Gives Scott Skiles A Pink Slip For Christmas
READ MORE:
Ouch, that's a tough thing to have happen at Christmas time.

Frustrated by the awful record of a very talented team, the Bulls fired head coach Scott Skiles, and have yet to name a replacement.

Skiles had done a great job taking what had become a lame-duck franchise in the post MJ era and turned it into a contender again.  But is a 9-16 start for a team that was a playoff contender the year before really bad enough to warrant a firing?

Fair or foul? Will this ultimately bite the Bulls or will this the move needed to turn them around?

The timing of it is obviously foul.  It reminds me of the CBA team that used to be here in LaCrosse firing Don Zierdan the day before Thanksgiving.  However, I do think firing Skiles was the way to go.  He was not a good fit for that team at all.  Not to mention that Tyson Chandler, Eddy Curry, and Jamal Crawford have all improved after leaving Scott Skiles.

They shouldn't have fired Scott Skiles. He was doing such a good job. they had only had a bump in the road but they were going to make it

I am not a fan of the Bulls, nor of the NBA, but I've always respected Scott Skiles, way back from his days at Michigan State. This follow up piece in the Chicago Tribune sums him up. A real stand up guy. I hope he finds himself another gig.

I'm not a fan of this firing at all. Scott Skiles merely tried to do his job the old fashioned way and unfortunately today's spoiled (Deng, Gordon, Wallace) don't want to go about things the hard way.

John Paxson has now put himself out there by not taking any responsibility for his own failures (Wallace $60 Million, drafting Tyrus Thomas instead of LaMarcus Aldridge).

Skiles response today sums up the kind of guy he is: "Hardly a day goes by that I don't demand accountability and stress results. Today was my day to be held accountable."

I've never understood the logic of any team firing a coach before the season is even half way over.  I think you should always at least let them go the whole season, unless they do something illegal or something.

Yea Blame Paxson,  he doesnt give anyone extensions pissing them all off, then dangles all of them to the Lakers for Kobe Bryant, then expects them to act like nothing is wrong and the organ-I-zation still support them...GOOD LUCK..Skiles is lucky to be let go today!

pax was getting all positive press until this year; same with skiles. funny how when things go bad, all of a sudden all this negative press comes out. what really happened here? i think skiles realized his time was up and told pax to let him go. they have always had a great relationship and worked well together. skiles realized he wasn't going to get this group to do any better.

i think pax realizes this too, and he is not so arrogant as to think he has the perfect team together. that's why he was smart enough not to make ridiculous offers to gordon and deng. look, deng is a solid player, but there are MANY better players making less than what deng was offered. and while pax was right to not give gordon gold, he did make an error by not trading him when his value was up. gordon is the mast damaging player on this team. his inconsistency (30 one night, 5 the next) just kills them.

yes, hinrich is underachieving this year. yes, wallace is not worth what he is making (everyone knew that going into his original contract) but his value has already been realized in bringing the bulls out of the doldrums last year.

the bulls as a franchise have vastly improved under pax and skiles. now, pax needs to find more talent and a coach to raise the level of play. skiles will surface elsewhere and do well.
