After putting an end to his war of words with Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho, Manchester City boss Manuel Pellegrini has launched a scathing attack against local rivals Manchester United. Pellegrini, who is enjoying huge success in his debutant season at Manchester City, claims there is only force in Manchester this season and it is blue in color.

Manchester City have the potential to win an unprecedented quadruple this season. The English club has enjoyed success on all four fronts; the FA Cup, the Capital One Cup, the Premier League and the Champions League.

On the other hand Manchester United have struggled under their new manager David Moyes. The Premier League champions are seventh on the Premier League table and 15 points away from the table leaders Chelsea. Moreover, Manchester United has been knocked out of the FA Cup and the Capital One Cup and have little hope of going deep into the Champions League.

Pellegrini admits he is well-aware of the success Manchester United has acquired in the past two decades, but he would rather concentrate on the present and develop a team that would dwarf their red adversaries, a team that can replicate performance such as the 4-1 thrashing in the Manchester derby in September.

“If we only consider this season, there is just one club in Manchester and it's ours, but you cannot forget what United has done in the previous years,” Pellegrini said. “We are aiming to keep growing by winning many trophies -- not just national but international trophies.

“We are fighting for four titles this year. We have to be patient because you cannot change the team from one day to another. We have to keep the philosophy of the style and for that you need time.”

Manchester City will be hosting Barcelona at the Etihad Stadium for the first leg of last-16 tie in the Champions League on Tuesday. This will be the first time Manchester City has made it to the Champions League’s knockout stage. Manchester City manager Pellegrini believes his side will be put to their toughest test yet this season when they go up against Barcelona.

“It is a good test. It is important. This club is trying to develop those areas,” Pellegrini said. “So far we have a good season and we must finish that way. One or our targets is to continue in the Champions League knowing we play against the most important club in the world.”

Pellegrini is expected to field a strong attacking side against Barcelona in order to take advantage of their weakened defensive line. Barcelona will rely on their strong attack to take the most out of their trip before the second leg at Camp Nou.
