Penn State's 107th-ranked offense didn't need any more bad news, but that's exactly what it got Wednesday morning when starting wide receiver Shawney Kersey decided to leave the team.January 1, 2011; Tampa, FL, USA; Penn State Nittany Lions wide receiver Shawney Kersey (4) warms up before their game against the Florida Gators of the 2010 Outback Bowl at Raymond James Stadium. Coach Bill O'Brien announced via the team's official Twitter account that Kersey is leaving due to personal reasons and will remain enrolled in school.

Receivers Justin Brown and Devon Smith transferred to Oklahoma and Marshall, respectively, during the offseason. This left the Nittany Lions with a depleted, inexperienced unit.

Kersey was the team's returning leading receiver with five receptions in 2011.

Sophomore Allen Robinson and tight end Kyle Carter have been quarterback Matt McGloin's top targets so far this season, but other players will have to emerge in order for the Penn State offense to have success.
