Despite the fact that Joe Paterno was content to look the other way when children were being molested for years by his Jerry Sandusky, Paterno's former top assistant, Penn State students will most certainly NOT look the other way as they attempt to save the Paterno statue on campus.
The sad part about this story is that if Paterno was half as vigilant as the student in this picture, his legacy might not be circling the drain right now.
The university has already said that they won't be taking down the statue, but that hasn't stopped at least one intrepid student from camping out all night outside the statue to protect it from anyone who may wish to harm it.
This is just another example of how the football-crazed culture in State College has blinded people to the truth, and caused them to try and protect the legacy of a man who truly cared for nothing except wins.

Signs like this are why Penn State football needs to suffer the death penalty.
As long as people continue to value Joe Paterno's shattered legacy more than the truth, it's clear that there is still a serious priority problem at Penn State.
Shut down the football program, because it's clear that no one has learned a damn thing.
Aside from Sandusky's obviously disgusting tendencies, the biggest problem at Penn State was that people valued the football program so highly that they allowed lives to be ruined in a futile attempt to save the legacy of the program.
Until that changes, the culture at Penn State will always be one that invites another Sandusky-like situation.
Coupled with the fact that their crimes were worse than any recruiting violation ever, it's pretty clear: Penn State football needs the death penalty.

Not exactly Vietnam War protesters are they? What a bunch of fools. Fortunately in a month or so Fall classes will start & these twits can get back to kicking the hacky sack around the quad.

I think we are too quick to tarnish a seriously great record of a man that is no longer here to defend himself.
I dont even like penn state!!
Dont get me wrong-----I would gut a pedophile in less time than you can say WTF. They shouldnt be walking the same earth as the rest of us.

Where---Ive not read it. If someone told me that my best friend, that Ive known half my life, was a pedophile, I would tell them to stick it in their ear. Wheres the pictures? Prove it. I would not in any form believe it. Think about it.

there is a paper trail showing he knew about it and did nothing to stop it.

Joe pa is dead and gone and he took what he knew with him. We will never know what he knew or didnt know-----The rest is just hearsay. If you think pedophiles arent good at hiding their actions and covering their tracks, why are there thousands currently operating in our country that havent been caught? The first thing the neighbor, friend, spouse will say is "I cant believe it, I never thought it would happen"

something about child rape and murder that puts a damper on your "accomplishments"

Well said! What misguided "loyalty" these students have. It is now a monument for corruption and abuse of power. I don't care what he did on the football field. I put him right next to OJ Simpson now. The records are meaningless!

This is tragic, really. It's sad that people are standing up for JoePa more than he ever stood up for so many children that so desperately needed his help. The statue needs to go, for sure. Why would the school even consider keeping it up? It's not like in 20 years, people aren't going to remember the scandal and his part in it.
