Pep Guardiola receives backing from Bayern Munich skipper Philipp Lahm
Bayern Munich captain Philipp Lahm has backed the appointment of Pep Guardiola as the new manager of the club. The Germany international admitted he was impressed with the training methods and tactics of the former Barcelona boss after the Spaniard’s first training session with the Bayern Munich squad.
Pep Guardiola, who appeared in his first press conference as the manager of Bayern Munich on Monday, has impressed on lookers with his determination and ambition to succeed with the German club. Pep Guardiola has already amassed support from Bayern Munich fans and is receiving backing from the players. Now, all that the new Allianz Arena boss has to do is win silverware.
In an interview to Merkur, Philipp Lahm expressed confidence in Pep Guardiola’s abilities to lead the club. The 29-year-old defender believes Pep Guardiola can lead Bayern Munich into an era of dominance.
Philipp Lahm also revealed that his teammates were appreciating Pep Guardiola’s coaching methods. Pep Guardiola has started preparing his side for the 2013-14 season. Bayern Munich’s first match of the Bundesliga season will be against Borussia Monchengladbach on August 9.
“He is very communicative,” Philipp Lahm said in the interview. “He wants us to learn to understand him quickly. You could see that there will be a lot of changes. The training was completely new to us from warm-up to stretching afterwards.
“Everybody is very attentive. Everybody has to prove himself anew at the beginning of a season, especially with a new coach.”
Meanwhile, Bayern Munich winger Franck Ribery has extended his with the treble-winning side by inking a lucrative new four-year deal. Franck Ribery, who joined Bayern Munich from Marseille in 2007, had already confirmed he intended to stay with Bayern Munich beyond this season.
The 30-year-old France international scored 11 goals and assisted 22 times in 43 games last season. Franck Ribery played a crucial part in helping Bayern Munich win the Bundesliga title, the Champions League trophy and the DFB-Pokal cup.
“I'm really pleased,” Franck Ribery told Bayern Munich’s official website. “I always said how great it feels to be at FC Bayern. I have a good feeling for me and my family and I hope things will carry on the way they were in the past year.”
