If you watched the National Championship game and listened to Thom Brennaman talk about Tim Tebow, you might have gotten a bit confused and thought that it was a game between Tim Tebow and the Oklahoma Sooners.Surprisingly enough, there were a few other players on the field who actually played pretty well for Florida. One of them was Percy Harvin. While Tebow won the award for the game's most outstanding offensive player, it was Harvin who truly made the difference. Harvin had 9 rushes for 122 yards, for an absolutely ridiculous average of 13.6 yards yards per carry. He also caught 5 passes for 49 yards.
The most impressive part of it wasn't that he played so well. That kind of dual threat performance is what everyone has come to expect from Harvin. He has scored a TD in 15 straight games in which he has played, and many people think that he's Florida's best offensive player, despite the constant praise that you hear for Tebow. But none of that is what was REALLY impressive about Harvin's performance.
Percy Harvin, despite what he said about being at "98.5%" health, played in the national championship game with a hairline fracture in his ankle. It wasn't a high ankle sprain, which most people assumed. It was essentially a full blown broken ankle.
According to Harvin:
"A lot of people thought it was a high ankle sprain, but I had a hairline fracture. Any time I got tackled, it would hurt the bone, but we had six weeks, so I knew I would give it a go."
I don't care if he doesn't circumcise little boys in the Philippines, or if Superman doesn't wear his pajamas, Percy Harvin is my choice for the Gators most outstanding player yesterday.
