Peter King Ranks NFL Teams Pre-Camp From Best to Worst
READ MORE:
NFL
Apparently Peter King got his hands on whatever Jon Kitna has been smoking.

The Detroit Lions are listed at #13. Calvin Johnson is going to be brilliant, but I still don't think he's this good.

Peter King's NFL Top 5
1. Colts
2. Patriots
3. Chargers
4. Saints
5. Bears

Other curious selections include: Rams at #10 (way too high), Bengals at #17 (low), Raiders not last.

Since we're now just 8 days away from the first team reporting to camp, time to gage your take on how everyone stacks up. Click the link for Fan Power Rankings Poll.

Definetly too kind to the Lions, he's also way too kind to the Titans.

30. Arizona: If I had a quarter for every time I heard, "This is the year the Cardinals finally make that leap to respectability,'' I'd be Warren Buffett.

So the Lions are at #13, and the Cardinals are at #30? And it's perfectly okay to make fun of the Cardinals for being talked about to make the leap, yet admit that you pick the Lions to improve every year and fail miserably? Yeah, that makes sense.

I know the Cards aren't the best team in the world, but he somehow has them being worse than last year. Does anyone seriously think they would be worse than 5-11?

Hehehehehe-- That is certainly a stretch to put the Lions at #13, and he was a little tough on the 49ers by putting them #22 and the Chiefs at #26-- I think both teams need bumped up a few spots....

The Bengals are way to low here.  I know they had a tough season last year but they have one of the top offenses in the league and have improved the defense in several areas.   I'd say they are #10 or so.

Peter King's logic seems to be they did this last year so I think they'll do it again.  Not a surprise though, having read a lot his articles I get the impression the guy doesn't really watch football, instead he just goes to the stats page.  New England has the best chance of winning, New Orleans looks like they could be better than the Bears, but quite frankly I think the Bears will be a lot worse this season than they were last season.  Philly might be a top 10 team, but only because of their defense, offensively they are lacking a lot of weapons, and after his las several injuries I wouldn't expect McNabb to be as mobile as he has been in the past.

He definitely got the Buccaneers right,lol.....I think Detroit will go 8-8 or 9-7 so I agree with him. He has the Niners WAAAAAAAY too low as I think the entire NFC will go more or less topsy turvy this year: except Tampa Bay, of course

what basis does he use to rank the Saints?  The Ravens went to the Superdome where everybody was all warm and fuzzy and beat New Orleans bad. As a matter of fact the Saints were 1-3 against the AFC north with the only win being a 4 point victory over the Brownies. I'm obviously not buying the Saints hype. I'd move the Bears, Ravens and Bengals(17th??? is he crazy) up the list

I am not buying the Bears hype, what have the Bears done this off season that says they will be major contenders next season?  Nothing really at all.  They dropped Tank, but he wasn't going to play much anyways, Lance Briggs is looking toward holding out the season, and Rex Grossman is still the QB, they may be third best in the NFC and that's giving them the benefit of the doubt.

Trading Thomas Jones will end up being their biggest mistake.  Right now, I think they may be the 3rd or 4th best team in the NFC.

I am kind of a homer, I think Dallas and New Orleans will go at it in the NFC.  I think Chicago are going to be a let down.  I am not sure San Francisco has all the pieces to the puzzle put together yet.  So they will be a team to watch, but don't expect top 10 caliber yet.  I still think New England will be the top team to contend with, and I think the NFC will be better this year than last.

I think the top 4 NFC teams in any order will be Philly, Dallas, New Orleans, and the Bears.  The Rams may be interesting just for their offense, but these are the 4 teams I see being at the top in the NFC.

That could definitely compound the issue.

do you think the NFC title game will feature another nfc south team? like it has every year since the divisions were changed. (bucs-02,panthers-03,falcons-04,panthers-05,saints-06)

The Saints have the best shot.  The Panthers were vastly over-rated last year, and they aren't any different this year.  The Falcons have too many holes, and Tampa still has a way to go.

I think it will feature the New Orleans Saints and another team (hoping it's the Cowboys, but what can I say, I am a Cowboys fan).  I like the Cowboys the Seahawks, the Bears or even Philly (though like is a strong word) to represent the other team.

Ya'll probably think I'm crazy anyway, but Saints will be the only repeat division winner in the NFC. Either Dallas or Washington in the East. Detroit in the North. Either the Rams or the Niners out West

I think the niners more than the Rams.  For the west.  Detroit might be a stretch, they'll have a hell of an offense though.

You're drinking the Lions cool-aid too?  That team still has too many holes on defense IMO to take it from the Bears.

Not with Rod Marinelli as their coach. Ernie Sims might be the next Derrick Brooks and I don't say that lightly, lol (see Best LB of All-Time thread) and with Redding and Rogers in the middle of that 4-3 he's got a nice foundation for the Tampa 2

I agree on Sims, the guys' a beast and should become a pro bowler.  But the secondary is awful, outside of Sims the linebackers aren't that great, the O-Line has some issues, and the running backs aren't more than average.
