Omaha! Omaha! For each of Peyton's Omaha calls Sunday, $500 will go to charity

Blog Photo - Peyton Manning's "Omaha!" call results in money to charityIt seems as if nobody outside the team really knows what Peyton's doing when he calls out "Omaha!" at the line of scrimmage before the snap. (Except maybe Eli, as little brother Manning does the same thing.) I seem to remember Tony Dungy explaining it as Peyton's way of letting the line know that things are just about set and they look like he wants them to, and he's about to ask for the ball. I may have dreamed that, because I can't find a link to that information or anything about it.

Peyton "explained" it to the media the other day...but not really. "...uh, 'Omaha' is a run play. But it could be a pass play or a lpay-action pass, depending on a couple of things. Wind. Which way we're going, and, uh, the jersey's that we're wearing..."

The jerseys they're wearing? Okay, Peyton.

Oh well, we really don't need to know what it means or why he calls it. "Omaha" will make some good money this weekend for Manning's Peyback Foundation for at-risk kids this weekend. Apparently some Omaha-based companies have pledged to donate $500 to charity for each time the word comes out of Peyton's mouth against the Patriots on Sunday. In the Divisional Round game last weekend against the Chargers, Manning yelled "Omaha" 44 times - that would have been $22,000.

Any takers on how many times he says it this weekend?

Thanks goes out to for the story.
