As I try to hastily figure out what happened, or what didn't in sports over the weekend, I noticed that the golfing world was relatively the same.

Lefty choked, again. It wasn't a very important tournament, the Scottish Open, but Mickelson's colossal Final Round flops are always entertaining.

The next one was even worse.

A faulty driver cost Lefty his first European Tour win, as France's Gregory Havret rallied to win the Scottish Open on the first playoff hole Sunday.

Not exactly the sort of finish Mickelson wanted heading to the British Open, which begins Thursday at Carnoustie, about a two-hour drive away.

He's still trying to erase the memory of that U.S. Open meltdown at Winged Foot 13 months ago, where a terrible drive on the 72nd hole led to a double-bogey -- and left him one stroke behind winner Geoff Ogilvy.

I read this and thought oooh God here we go again. But I want to defend Phil a little. Yes he melted down again, but this was the freaking Scottish Open who cares? Phil has proven that he can win majors (note that is majors not major as he now has multiple on his resume). Phil's game is not tailored for links golf and therefore I don't really expect him to contend at the British, but mark it down if he is in contention on Sunday he won't choke it away. Phil is a major champion and has made shots when it counts no matter how he is labled because of Winged Foot. Normally I pull for Tiger to win any and every tournament because I appreciate greatness and want to see history sooner rather than later, but this week I will be pulling for lefty to win on the last hole with a clutch put, just like at Augusta.
