Several experts have picked the Philadelphia Eagles to represent the NFC in Super Bowl XLIII. I've admittedly laughed at those preseason predictions. Week one is a little too early to draw any lengthy conclusions, especially an opening contest against the terrible St. Louis Rams, but the Eagles and particularly Donovan McNabb and the offense were impressively sharp.
Down Kevin Curtis and Reggie Brown, his two starting wide receivers, McNabb still spread the ball around to eight other targets for 361 yards. Most impressive, three different Eagles receivers tallied 100-plus yards, notably rookie DeSean Jackson leading the team with six receptions and 106 yards. McNabb was incredibly accurate, and looked to have an incredibly amount of chemistry with Jackson already. Possibly a very dangerous combination this season.
Equally as impressive was stopping the Rams to just 166 yards total offense. St. Louis may be one of the worst football teams, but their offense has some firepower. Steven Jackson's longest run was 9 yards, totaling just 40 overall.
As far as opening weekend starts go, the Eagles are flying high. We'll find out much more next Monday night when they visit the Dallas Cowboys.
