It was interesting to hear Philadelphia fans explain themselves after the World Series victory party happened. Most non-Philadelphians called it a riot, while most Philadelphians called it Wednesday. Apparently flipping cars doesn't count as rioting, which I guess I can understand on some level. I mean, really, if you were stupid enough to leave your car in downtown Philly on Wednesday night, you pretty much deserved to have it flipped.
But as for the "we didn't riot" excuse, I never believed that. And we now have video that Philly fans did indeed riot and steal stuff. From The Fightins:
The popular Broad St. luggage joint, Robinson’s, became the unlikely target of a pack of riotous hoodlums [Wednesday] night after the Phillies World Series victory. The delinquents converged on the baggage company’s store, kicked in the glass doors, and had free reign in the shop — tossing everything they could get their hands on out the door and into the awaiting arms those standing outside. Most of the stolen goods wound up either being destroyed or set on fire in the middle of Broad St.
My favorite moment, the woman who yells out very calmly "GIVE ME A BAG!!!!!!!"
So to all those Philly fans out there who said "stop making our city look bad", we didn't have to do that, you already did it for us.
And hey, look on the bright side. At least the body count from the celebration is still at zero.
