Philippe Coutinho set for medical after Liverpool offered Inter Milan £8.5m
Liverpool are moments away from confirming Inter Milan’s Philippe Coutinho as their latest signing. According to reports Liverpool officials will travel to San Siro tonight to seal the £8.5 million deal for Brazilian midfield star Philippe Coutinho.
Media reports suggest the delegation headed for Italy straight after the embarrassing 3-2 defeat to Oldham in the Third-Round of the FA Cup. Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers will stay at home with his team, although he has been an important part of the negotiating process.
Brendan Rodgers believes Philippe Coutinho can become a star in the Liverpool squad. The transfer deal is will be finalized tomorrow, still Philippe Coutinho is expected to arrive at Liverpool at the end of the week for his medical.
Work permit is expected to be the reason behind Philippe Coutinho’s delayed arrival at the Merseyside. There was some disagreement about personal terms of the transfer contract as well, but those issues were resolved on the weekend.
Inter Milan and Liverpool negotiated a long time over a £7.6 million bid on Philippe Coutinho, which resulted in the Italian club demanding more money. The negotiations arrived at stalemate after Inter Milan’s demand for more money, however Brendan Rodgers saw Philippe Coutinho as an opportunity that must not be missed.
Southampton were ready to pay £10 million for Philippe Coutinho, but the 20-year-old had already made it clear that he only wanted a move to Anfield.
“The owners have been brilliant in supporting me,” Brendan Rodgers informed on Philippe Coutinho’s transfer saga. “We all agreed that this was a month when we would try to reinforce if we could.”
A couple of years back Philippe Coutinho was considered to be the next Kaka, but the youngster grew out of form and never recovered. Brendan Rodgers believes he can bring back the old Philippe Coutinho and set on the path towards glory.
Brendan Rodgers is also interested in signing former Liverpool forward Tom Ince from Blackpool. The Championship side has made it very difficult for Liverpool to make a bid because of their outrageous demands.
