Pick of Tony Ugoh finally makes sense, Glenn retiring
READ MORE:
The Colts have yet to start training camp and they've already taken a big hit.  Long time offensive tackle Tarik Glenn, a huge part of that offenses' success the past few years, is deciding to retire, despite being only 31 years old.

An unnamed Colt told ESPN's Chris Mortensen, "[Glenn] just feels burned out. It's that simple."

It certainly leaves a large hole on the defending champs line, as Glenn has with that team since 1997, and only missed 6 starts, each in 2003.  It makes the pick of Tony Ugoh actually make sense, as the Colts apparently knew that this in the future.   But even so, Ugoh is only a rookie, and if he starts right away will probably have his struggles.

This is a large hit to the Colts, and expect this line to allow more sacks than usual.

This is just more good news for the Patriots. Between losing Glenn, Dominic Rhodes, Cato June, Nick Harper and Brandon Stokley, as well as severely overpaying for Dwight Freeney, the Colts have had a less than stellar off-season, and it does not bode very well for their short- or long-term future.

It's always good to see the competition get weaker. Good luck in whatever awaits you in retirement, Tarik.

Unfortunatly, you are right.  (Although losing Stokley and Rhodes really doesn't matter that much, losing June, Reagor, Harper and Davis hurt a lot though with Glenn).

Honestly, I think it's going to be a very tough road to win the Super Bowl.  The Patriots, Chargers, Broncos and Jaguars all worry me at this point.

Good for him for retiring. This is going to become a much larger trend. These guys get paid enough that they can sacrifice some of their career for their long-term health (which I assume was a consideration for Glenn).

Good for Tarik, but a helluva surprise for many Colts fans (me included) !!!

Charlie Johnson should take over for Glenn, he did fine and even gave Glenn a rest for a few plays thru last season, but it still leaves a little room for concern in my mind about the O-Line now....

You think it will be Johnson, I was thinking that Ugoh would come right in.

It's going to be strange for sure.  Only Marvin has been with the team longer than Tarik among active guys. (Glenn was drafted in 97, Marvin in 96)

Probably-- I'm just basing this on his starting experience, though.  Johnson got the experience BUT it'll be real interesting to see the battle between Ugoh, Johnson, Jake Scott, and another guy, Michael Toudouze (who was drafted the same year as Johnson was.) for the starting position.

One of the few FA signings for the Colts, Rick Demulling, seemed pretty trivial at the time now looks like a good move to add depth too.
