Picking APart the Pollsters Final Ballot: Mangino Sized Errors
READ MORE:
Breaking down the individual AP ballots every week of the college football season. Who's the biggest homer? Who failed to watch the games? And who just doesn't get it ...

Sadly, this is the final picking APart the pollsters of the year, but fortunately they provided us with a lot of laughs. They never cease to amaze me.

Jon Wilner (San Jose Mercury News)
9. Tennessee
10. Boston College
11. Ohio State

You knew I wasn't going to let Jon slide on the final poll. Ohio State 11th? Sure they lost the National Championship game again, but oddly enough that came at the hands of the best team in the country. You could present a case that Tennessee is ranked higher, but there's little logic to back Boston College. I didn't realize the close win over Michigan State was that impressive. In case you're wondering, Wilner left his previous heart throb South Carolina unranked. I was certain he'd find a way.

Doug Lesmerises (Cleveland Plain Dealer)
2. Ohio State
3. Georgia
4. Southern California

I'm not necessarily critical of Doug, but it should come as no surprise that one of Ohio State's very few 2nd place votes comes from the home land. I believe we're getting a little too carried away with USC and Georgia. They definitely looked good in their bowl games, but that was in beating teams that were borderline Top 20 caliber.

Craig James (ABC)
11. Florida
24. Michigan

Not that I'd expect James to make a lot of sense, but don't you have to take into consideration the Wolverines carving up the Gators defense last week?

Molly Yanity (Seattle Post-Intelligencer)
6. Kansas
7. Missouri

So much for head-to-head matchups meaning anything. Molly also ranked Boston College three spots ahead of Virginia Tech despite the Hokies two touchdown victory in their last meeting.

Steve Batterson (Quad City Times)
3. Kansas
6. Missouri
7. West Virginia

Here's an example of the lazy man pollsters. Kansas beat #3 Virginia Tech, so we'll just automatically slide them up into their position without failing to consider the Hokies being vastly overrated. Once again, didn't Missouri take care of business vs the Jayhawks? I swear I watched that game.

Kevin Pearson (Riverside-CA Press Enterprise)
12. Hawaii

Someone forgot to watch the Sugar Bowl.

Ray Ratto (San Francisco Chronicle)
10. Cincinnati

This was a common trend among pollsters, ranking the Bearcats among the top 12 teams. Did I miss something? That wasn't Southern Cal they beat in a bowl game, it was Southern Miss.

This was only a small slice of the irrationality in the AP Poll. Feel free to pick apart others as you see fit. Express your own opinion with the Fan's Top 25 Poll below.
