Our weekly look at the individual AP Ballots is back again for this season. Who was the biggest homer? Who doesn't make any sense? Who actually (gasp!) deserves some credit?
Neal McCready (Mobile Press-Register)
1. Arizona State
6. Boston College
Neal has asserted that ASU is tops because of a tougher conference and while the Sun Devils have finally beaten one of the better teams, I'm surprised to see McCready ignore the fact Boston College has a better win to their credit (on the road @ VT). Neal now has some company on the Arizona State bandwagon ...
Austin Ward (Casper Star-Tribune)
1. Arizona State
2. Boston College
3. Ohio State
5. Oklahoma
6. Oregon
NR. USC
Unfortunately, Austin doesn't really explain much in his post today about his reasoning. I'd like to know why Oklahoma is ahead of Oregon at this stage. The most obvious assessment is that he thinks nothing of USC, which is merely showing a dislike for the past success of that program. The Trojans visit Eugene, one of the toughest places to play in the country, and lose by 7 points and thus they're totally out of the Top 25? But I bet New Mexico (22) is much better.
Scott Wolf (Los Angeles Daily News)
8. Texas
10. Kansas
11. Arizona State
So much for awarded teams who've beaten everyone on there schedule. Was anyone else that impressed by Texas last week struggling to beat a team who has an identity crisis?
Jon Wilner (San Jose Mercury)
1. LSU
2. Oregon
3. Boston College
4. Oklahoma
5. Ohio State
10. Arizona State
17. South Carolina
20. Tennessee
Behold the glory that is Wilner's logic.
Adam Van Brimmer (Savannah Morning News)
20. Troy
22. Florida
Uh-huh. September 8th it wasn't remotely close. I guess Adam was really impressed with the Trojans big win over juggernaut Arkansas State this weekend. Too bad the Gators play real football in the SEC.
Herb Gould (Chicago Sun-Times)
15. South Carolina
NR. Tennessee
Another voter suffering from Wilner-itis. I'm not suggesting that you have to place the Vols ahead of the Gamecocks merely because of last week's win (although it's a good one), but Tennessee's losses are all to good teams ... have the same amount of L's as USC ... so why such a large disparity here?
Tom Keegan (Lawrence Journal)
15. UCLA
Congrats Tom for making it blatantly obvious you forgot to look at the boxscores while enjoying the Jayhawks win.
Joe Giglio (Raleigh News & Observer)
25. Hawaii
Thank you, Joe. The Warriors don't even have a win against the Top 100.
That's enough on my end, I'll leave the rest to you. Make sure to set the record straight by entering you own Top 25 below.
