Pigskin Pick 'em League

Russo-US PRESSWIREEach week I fill out a confidence ladder for a league I'm in with an old work buddy. For anyone who is unfamiliar with how it works, you pick the winner of every game and then assign a number to it based on how confident you are that the team you picked will win. If your team wins the game you get that many points, but if your team loses them game you don't get any points. It's pretty entertaining, and very difficult. This past week the only game I picked wrong was the Washington vs Carolina matchup. I picked 13 of the 14 matchups correctly. There are 32 people who participate in my league so the competition is fierce!

I plan to share these with you each week on Thursday, which is when we have to submit our picks to beat the horribly inconvenient Thursday night game. I love having Thursday night entertainment but it kills me in fantasy and this pick em' league.

My overall record on the season is: 78 - 53

Tomorrow when I post my Week 10 picks, I'll provide analysis for each game, and my strategy behind picking each team. You're not always picking the team you expect to win because you pick against the other players to try to gain points. For example, earlier in the season I picked the Seahawks to upset the Patriots at home, and not many others picked Seattle so I gained a lot of ground. I didn't necessarily think Seattle was going to win heading into the game, but I knew they had a decent shot since they were at home, and more importantly, most other people in the league were going to pick the Pats.

You pick based on the number of games there are in a given week, so if there are 16 games you pick 16,15,14,13... etc all the way down to one. You can't use the same number twice. This makes it especially difficult since there are some weeks where there are only two or three games that you are truly confident about.

Ok, that makes sense.  That is a pretty neat format....it'd be fun to get into a league like that!

Sounds interesting but complicated

Are you only allowed to put out a certain number of points per week (i.e. each week you have 100 points to spread across all the games)?

Otherwise, you should just put a bunch of points on every game - if you're right you get the points, and if you're wrong there's no penalty for betting high (you get 0 regardless, right?)...
