
House arrived in 2012 from the NFL’s St. Louis Rams, where he spent as the “defensive quality control” coach from 2009-11. He was also the special teams coordinator for the Carolina Panthers in 2008, and held various positions with other schools prior to that.
As Chryst’s right-hand man during the recruiting period, the Panthers finished with the No. 32 overall class for 2013, according to 247Sports.
The job had been vacant since December 14, when Dave Huxtable left to take the same position on Dave Doeren's new staff at North Carolina State.
Pitt’s defense fell below expectations last season, allowing opponents to score an average of 26.6 points per game (76th in the NCAA).
