In most cities, that wouldn't be the big story. It's nice to win 81 games, but it's not exactly an incredible achievement.

However, when your team fails to do so for two decades in a row, it seems a little more special.

That's the case in Pittsburgh, where the Pirates are coming off 20 straight losing seasons.

This year, they've broken the streak. With their 81st win, they have now guaranteed that they won't have a 21st straight losing season.

Now, they can focus on securing the NL Central division title, which won't be easy. The Cardinals and Reds, both very good teams, are on the Pirates' heels and will do everything they can to avoid playing each other in the 1-game wild card playoff.

Congrats to the Pirates on finally avoiding another losing season.
