Early in the game on Sunday between the Steelers and the Giants, long snapper Greg Warren suffered a knee injury. Later in the game, it proved to be costly. Warren's backup was linebacker James Harrison, who was obviously not accustomed to long snapping.
Harrison's snap went over the head of punter Mitch Berger and out of the back of the end zone for a safety. That play tied the game for the Giants, who went on to win 21-14.
Long snapping has been instrumental in games before. Trey Junkin was an excellent long snapper for 19 years, but when he came back for the Giants in the playoffs, he botched a snap that ended up costing the Giants the game.
Never underestimate the power of the snapper.
