Pittsburgh Steelers hire Mike Munchak to be their new offensive line coach
The Houston Texans were one of the franchises that were interested in landing him on their side and Munchak had talks with him about hiring as offensive line coach. Before Munchak, Jack Bicknell Jr. was the Steelers offensive line coach. Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin got rid of him after just a year with the team.
The Cleveland Browns and Munchak had talks about a coaching stint too but that was about the head coach job. For the Steelers this is very good news and a wise decision on behalf of the franchise. After having several interviews they have been successful in landing Munchak on their team and he happens to be rated as the best offensive line coach in entire NFL.
They desperately needed a good offensive coach to get things going for them. Their offensive line performance is simply terrible and is rated as one of the worst in NFL. Much of that has been compensated by their starting quarterback Ben Roethlisberger who has called the plays with sensible intelligence and got their offense running. But with Munchak on as their new offensive line coach, he will definitely up the offense.
He played as an offensive guard for the Houston Oilers and was the 8th overall pick in the first round of NFL 1982 Draft. He had a hall of fame career in which he made it to the Pro Bowl nine times.
Having Munchak will be a huge asset to the Steelers as they will not only get to revamp the offense but also get to make the team stronger in general. With their center Maurice Maurkice Pouncey on the mend and coming back next year from his torn ACL, they will get another boost and with Roethlisberger already giving a good performance, their game next season will be noticeably improved.
