We all remember Allen Iverson's great speech about how no one should ever take practice seriously.
"Man, we talkin' bout practice!"
Well, I never thought I'd ever find a pro athlete who hated practice more than Iverson, but I think we just found one.
Jay Glazer is reporting that Plaxico Burress has been fined an unreal 40-50 times during his Giants career. Essentially he's averaging one fine per game played, since he's only played 50 games with Big Blue. Naturally, the fines come from Burress being ridiculously lazy.
Fantastic. So, uh, isn't Burress sort of upset about consistently losing money over such stupid things? Apparently the answer is no. What actually bothers Burress is that the Giants have suspended him for the Seahawks game next Sunday.
Well, yes. I can understand that Burress just wants to play football. But I also understand that the Giants just gave him a $35 million contract. And my guess is that said contract asks Burress to show up on days other than Sunday to earn it.
Even better news is that it turns out that Burress and coach Tom Coughlin utterly hate each other - which makes sense since Coughlin is a complete stickler about schedules while Burress apparently can't tell time. Burress also continuously tunes out Coughlin or agrues face to face with him in front of the team. Well, what do you expect when all you do is fine a guy but keep letting him play? The Giants should consider themselves lucky that Plax shows up for any practice, period, at this point.
Anyway, it sounds like there's a lot of concern about what happens the next time Coughlin and Burress square off, especially since it would appear that the team is finally drawing a line in the sand. I were a betting man, I'd have to think Plax gets suspended at least once more this
