Plaxico Burress to Turn Himself in on Monday, Could Face Up to 7 Years in Prison for Felony Gun Possession
You Know That Gun Plax Shot Himself With On Friday? Yeah, He Didn't Have A Permit For It.
Plaxico Burress was known as a complainer and a thorn in Pittsburgh's side when he played for the Steelers.  Then he went to New York City to play for the Giants, and seemed to stop causing problems.  He still didn't always use his height to his advantage, but he's played better for the Giants in the last 4 years.  This year, however, Burress has started his shenanigans again, and this time, he went too far.

Earlier this year, Plax was suspended for not showing up to team practices/meetings, and we found out later that he was accused of being a wife beater, but that was just the beginning.  He's also spent time out of the lineup due to injury, and he's been fined also.  But Friday night in Manhattan, Plax shot himself out of a Giants uniform, literally.  He and Antonio Pierce were in a Manhattan night club.  Somehow, Plax shot himself in the leg with his own gun.  What's worse is Plax didn't have a permit for said gun.  Antonio Pierce tried to hide that gun, but it has since been recovered.  Plax spent 12 hours in a NYC hospital.  He'll be okay physically, but his career in the Big Apple may not be.

Burress's lawyer said the receiver plans to turn himself into authorities on Monday and plead not guilty to criminal possession of a weapon.  This is the part that could kill Plax's NFL career...possessing a gun without a permit is a felony.  The gun laws in New York are pretty tough, and if convicted, he could face up to 7 years behind bars.  For anyone watching The Blitz on Sunday night, Tom Jackson hit the nail on the head, and I agree - I don't care who you are, you should not get special treatment if you are put on trial for a crime.  Too often, we've seen Hollywood celebrities, singers, and athletes get a slap on the wrist because they have a big contract and are famous.  I certainly hope Michael Vick's situation was a precedent for not showing any mercy to someone because he/she makes $30 million.

I for one hope Plax has the book thrown at him, and Antonio Pierce should be charged as well for concealing that gun, if he indeed tried to hide it.  If I'm the owners of the Giants, this is the last straw with the troublemaker Burress.  Luckily for the Giants, his off-field troubles haven't been a distraction on the field, as the team is 11-1.  I'm going to hope that this moron gets what's coming to him for a) bringing a gun into a night club where firearms weren't allowed, and b) not having a permit for the gun in the first place.  He deserves to see some jail time, and I hope he gets it and learns a lesson.

Until next time, The Blitzburgh Pit Stop is glad Plax didn't get seriously hurt, but also nominating him for the NFL's dumbass of the year.

BK over and out

I'm absolutely shocked by this turn of events.

And when I say shocked, I mean completely not surprised at all.

He's turning himself in this morning. I hope he got his lie together because this time he may be gone for real. He's lucky he shot himself instead of anyone else.

" HEY BURRESS, YA EVER HEARD OF THING CALLED A SAFETY....ROFLMAO !!!!!!!!!!!!". All kidding aside, I am sorry to hear that he shot himself and I am glad he is ok as well. But he does need to pay for his crime(s) and if that means doing jail time and being suspended from the league then so be it. I too am tired of high paid athletes and celeb's  being let off or gently punished for crimes that would land us (The Average Joe or Josephine ) in jail for the max time and possibly destroy our families and our careers.

I will have to totally disagree with you about the pumpkin part. Although none of  receivers mentioned above are the " STAR" that Burress (and I say this loosely ) "WAS", I think that the chemistry that this team has in general will propel them deep into the Play Offs. I don't know what game you where watching this week or if you even followed the training camp for the Giants but Hixon when not in the shadows of "BANG BANG" Burress has shined and excelled greatly. Kevin Boss has made the Giants and their Loyal fans forget about "SHOCKME" and Toomer has never been a slouch and in many peoples opinion is an elite receiver with great hands and the ability to take a hit when going across the middle.

Who will be tougher on him:

1)    The Giants.      They're the ones looking like fools for giving him all that caysh, and they certainly have been more than lenient with all of the $hit he's put them & the other players through.
2)    Commissioner Goodell.     He has inherited a league that is just full of guys who think they're above everything.     Not that this is different now; it's just in this age of instant communication and 'over-coverage', their antics are magnified.     Goodell wants / needs to clean up the league as much he can - that may be his legacy.     Here's another case for him to try & do that.
3)     The NY Police.     Let's face it, he could get 5-7 years in prison for what he did.      Now, in reality, he won't, but he has committed a serious crime.      Maybe the 2 hour delay was to secretly get the person he actually shot to the hospital, cause a minor injury to himself, and to withdraw $ 1 million "hush money" to give to that person he actually shot ??????

This 'story' is far from over......................

I disagree, Plex's absnece opens the door for new players and more playing time. With our great offensive line, Eli will be able to connect to them on a consistent basis.

How do you know this isn't Hixon's true skillset? Have you coached him for 20 years? This is the first real shot he is getting with the Giants AND the NFL

If he gets seven years, it will be the longest agreement he'll ever receive.
