The New Jersey police have been trying to get into contact with Tennessee Titans wide receiver Kenny Britt to question him about a shooting/stabbing incident, which reportedly involves a man he drove to a local hospital with stab wounds. While a spokesperson for Kenny Britt confirmed that the former Rutgers star has been cooperative in every way with the police, the law enforcement officials contest that hardly the case.
“There was a stabbing and a shooting in the same incident – and we need to speak to everyone who was there… and [Britt] has refused to come in,” said N.J. Police Capt. Edgar Martinez. “At this point he is still not cooperating with police…So the statements that he's putting out that he's cooperated with the investigation are false.”
Kenny Britt drove a close friend (the police initially identified as his brother) to Jersey City Medical Center with non-life-threatening stab wounds to his back. But when the police started questioning Kenny Britt about the origin of the stab wounds, Britt was uncooperative and left the medical facility. Neither could the police get much out of the stab victim.
Earlier that night, the police had been called to a N.J. apartment following a report of a stabbing incident that took place during a big fight at a birthday party. Although the police found no traces of unrest, they returned later after reports of a shooting incident near the scene.
Kenny Britt's spokesman stated that the former Rutgers star leaving a dinner party held by his parents when he discovered his friend injured outside the residence. Subsequently, Kenny Britt drove his friend to the hospital, and remained with him for some time.
The police believe Kenny Britt may have been witness to the shooting incident.
"(Britt) drove the guy to the hospital,” said Edgar Martinez. “(Britt) was at a dinner, the party, with his pregnant girlfriend."
Edgar Martinez said that the police had been unable to ascertain Kenny Britt’s location and they were discussing next steps to be taken with the Hudson County Prosecutor's office.
This is the ninth time Kenny Britt had a run-in with the law since entering the league in 2009. Kenny Britt was previously suspended in the season opener for violation of league’s personal conduct policy after he was arrested in July on suspicion of DUI.
And NFL spokesman informed the Tennessee Titans that a league official is looking into the latest incident involving Kenny Britt and the police.
