If there's one major drag to living in China, aside from living there in the first place, it's that the country has zero tolerance for pornography.I mean, have you ever tried to find a Chinese porno at your local smut shop? Uh, me neither. But the point is pornography almost doesn't exist at all in the country since all pornographic material is prohibited on the mainland and being caught with it or producing it carries extreme penalties.
But with the world less than a year away from coming to Beijing, the Chinese government is starting to see the light. Well, at least for two weeks, but that's good enough for me.
"Our law forbids Playboy and we should obey this, but we can't rule out the possibility that it might make its debut. There might be a demand for it (from athletes or visitors) during the Games," said Liang Jianrui, vice-president of China National Publications Import and Export Corporation, which will manage the nine magazine-selling kiosks sanctioned by Olympic organizers BOCOG during the Olympic and Paralympic Games.
I'll tell you what, my demand alone will make it a reality. Reportedly, visitors to the Beijing Games may also be able to buy other limited publications as China mulls relaxing its controls for the Summer Olympics in line with international practice.
Despite the possibility of Playboy coming to China though, there's also been talk in the past couple of months that it won't happen at all. Which is a shame for horny athletes everywhere.
But as far as I'm concerned, if they don't have Hustler available in Beijing, then what's the point in even going?
