Pouncey brothers wear "Free Hernandez" hats to nightclub

Roger Goodell probably won't be thrilled with the Pouncey brothers' choice of headwear

Mike and Maurkice Pouncey were not only teammates of Aaron Hernandez at the University of Florida, they appear to have been pretty good friends with him as well.

That doesn't bode particularly well for them, knowing what we know about a few of Hernandez's friends, but the real issue at the moment is how they're handling their friend's arrest.

The Pouncey brothers were recently sighted in a Miami nightclub with hats that read "Free Hernandez."

At a time when the New England Patriots (Hernandez's former team) and the NFL are doing everything to distance themselves from Hernandez, including removing a 2010 photo of Hernandez from the Hall of Fame that had won a photography contest in the past.

Maurkice and Mike Pouncey are centers for the Pittsburgh Steelers and Miami Dolphins, respectively. Their teams probably won't be thrilled to see this either, especially considering the fact that they were both mentioned in an investigation of a double shooting in 2007 that also involved Hernandez.

These two would probably do best to avoid discussing their connections with Hernandez, and perhaps hold off on showing their support for him at the moment. At least wait until the facts of the case come out a little more.

This is the last thing the NFL wants to see, and the last thing their teams want to see from them as well.

UPDATE:
Maurkice Pouncey later issued this apology via Twitter:
"I fully recognize the seriousness of the situation involving my former teammate, and I regret that my actions appear to make light of that serious situation. I apologize to anyone who was offended by my actions."

I guess my answer will be a double edged sword.  Good for the Pouncey brothers for not giving up on their friend, and extremely bad in regards to allowing themselves to be filmed wearing the hats.  This day in age no matter who your friends are, your employers will no doubtedly hold it against you if your bring unwanted attention to yourself and it is made public.
