Premier League still an option for 15m-bound Klaas-Jan Huntelaar
Klaas-Jan Huntelaar may still be picked up by a Premier League club this fall. The Schalke striker has a €15 million release clause in his new contract, which means the Dutchman still has a shot at a big-money move into the Premier League.
Sport Bild has confirmed that Klaas-Jan Huntelaar may still become the target of a Premier League club because of his €15 million release clause, a price most clubs would be willing to pay in order to obtain the Dutchman’s services.
Klaas-Jan Huntelaar ended weeks of speculation about his transfer move by inking a new two-year contract with Schalke. The 29-year-old had become the crown jewel of Schalke after Raul’s departure.
The Netherlands international has been in fine form for Schalke for the past two seasons, which is why the German outfit wanted him to stay at the club. Top notch clubs from the Premier League such as Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with Klaas-Jan Huntelaar over the past six months, but no officials bids have been received by Schalke.
When Klaas-Jan Huntelaar put pen to paper on a new contract with Schalke reports about the Dutchman’s move to the Premier League disappeared into thin air. However, the news of Klaas-Jan Huntelaar’s low release clause has once again set the cogs in motion for an away move.
Klaas-Jan Huntelaar’s future at Schalke is in doubt once again. Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur are keen on bolstering their attacking options this fall. The London clubs have been linked to a move for Sevilla’s Alvaro Negredo, although none have publically come up with an officially bid.
Tottenham Hotspur manager Andres Villas-Boas has declared he won’t bring any strikers to White Hart Lane this fall, but the former Chelsea boss could surprise his fans with an attacking midfielder, a false line player or even a forward.
Since the departure of Rafael van der Vaart, Tottenham Hotspur’s attack has been missing the x-factor. Andres Villas-Boas can bring that back by signing Klaas-Jan Huntelaar.
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has already announced that there might be some transfer activity this January. The Frenchman has been linked to a couple of forwards over the last couple of weeks and is expected to shed some light on his decisions this weekend.
Schalke seems to have secured Klaas-Jan Huntelaar for the moment at least, but the German club is in danger of losing him till the January transfer window ends.
