Billionaire, Mikhail Prokhorov, has never been one shy for words. In a recent NY Post interview, the confident Brooklyn Nets owner said that the Nets would win a NBA title in the next three years. As for this year, Prokhorov has at least promised post-season play; a bold statement, considering the fact that the Nets were one of the worst teams in NBA history just two years ago.
“For me, there’s only one place: number one,” Prokhorov said Friday inside his team’s brand-new home, Barclays Center, in Brooklyn. “And I do my best to reach the championship. We’re moving on ... slowly, slowly, step by step. It’s easy to make a strong team, but it’s very difficult to make a championship team. So we’re on the right way. And still, I’m expecting our championship within three years. I think now we have a very good team. We have a great team spirit, with the coaches, the general manager and this team … I think we’ll be together for the next couple of years.”
Time will only tell if Prokhorov is Nostradamus or a false prophet, but his effervescent confidence has been contagious amongst Nets fans; something that a depressed fan base has needed for quite some time.
