This is the second time Marve has torn the ACL in his left knee and third overall throughout his injury-prone collegiate career.
There's the possibility of a late-season return, but the sixth-year senior will likely be done and has to decide if he wants to hang up the cleats.
"It is torn, but we anticipate him making an attempt to come back and play this season," Hope said. "A lot of (the decision to return) will be up to Robert. He'll be out for at least a couple weeks, and then he'll have the option of whether he'll come back and play or not."
Marve was 41-of-56 (73.2 percent) with 414 yards, four touchdowns and an interception before sustaining the injury.
Senior Caleb TerBush will replace Marve under center starting this week vs. Eastern Michigan. He has over 2,000 passing yards and 14 touchdowns in his four years with the program and saw the field against the Fighting Irish last Saturday.
Junior Rob Henry, who was the starter to begin last season, is expected to see some snaps as a dual-threat contributor.
