RCR And Kevin Harvick to part ways after 2009?
Where There's Smoke, There's... Happy?
Richard Chilcress Racing is struggling mightily this year, and that's no secret.

While Jeff Burton has had some good runs, he's had four races go to the dogs, he claims, because of the double file restarts.  Clint Bowyer just hasn't been the contender that he was last year.  And Kevin Harvick?  Well, Happy seemed to have been just shrugging it off, taking it all in stride.

Until now.

With the success that Tony Stewart and Ryan Newman have found this year, and the relationship Kevin already has with Tony (Tony has driven the KHI Nationwide car on many occasions) Kevin has decided to make a move.

Although RCR and Harvick have a contract that runs through the end of 2010, Kevin has apparently requested an early release of that contract, for the end of the 2009 season.  And that's not all.  He has sponsorship with Shell/Penzoil through 2010 and reportedly wants them to follow him, rather than the team.

Okay, so what exactly is Kevin planning?

Of course, it is all speculation, but here's what we do know.  Kevin Harvick Inc. under Kevin and DeLana Harvick fields three very successful NASCAR teams, one in the Camping World Truck Series another in the Nationwide Series and a third in the ARCA/REMax Series.  Ron Hornaday, diving the KHI Chevy Silverado, has a Truck Championship.  However, they don't have a Cup team and, to date, there have been no indications that he would be starting one.

Step over to Stewart-Haas Racing.  Tony joined up with George Haas and jumped full bore into Cup racing for 2009, and sits on top of the Sprint Cup leaderboard with seven races to go until the Chase Cutoff, something unheard of for a owner/driver in over a decade.  However, Tony doesn't have any kind of a Nationwide team, and until now, now publicised or rumored plans to start one.

Monday, Danica Patrick visited Stewart-Haas Racing.

Can we add it all up?  And if we do, what do we get?

Let''s see.  Stewart already has support from Hendrick Motor Sports.  Harvick has been working with Richard Childress, as a driver in the Cup Series and as a silent partner of sorts in the feeder series.  This year RCR is struggling, while HMS stays right on top, with five of the top twelve in HMS built equipment.

If Kevin, DeLana and Tony were to form a partnership of sorts, this would allow a kind of super team.  The strength that KHI has shown in the ARCA, Trucks and N'wide series could only get stronger, and it would provide a spot for Ms Patrick, should she decide to jump ship, to gain some seat time in a stock car, all while doing so in a dominant team, one of her biggest demands.  Kevin could move into a third SHR car for 2010, with Danica joining them in 2011.

Super team or what??

Of course, this is all just speculation of a rabid NASCAR fan, but what fun to imagine?

Why mess with Danica at all? I think they would do fine just to roll Harvicks teams under the stewart-haas umbrella.

I wrote this article yesterday, but with all the Meth-field and other stuff going on, it wasn't put up until today.  And, of course, this morning, RCR issues a statement saying that Kevin and Shell/Penzoil have a contract with RCR through to the end of 2010 and Richard Childress says:

"Shell will be the sponsor and Kevin will be the driver of RCR's No. 29 Shell-Pennzoil Chevrolet Impala SS in 2010."

Of course, as we've seen before, this statement doesn't really amount to squat in the long run.

if Harvick goes to SHR then maybe that will lead Childress to sign BK?

I'm sure Richard Childress would like to see Happy stay, but if he wants to leave bad enough, he'll keep forcing the issue and eventually RCR will have no choice but to let him go.

I like the way your mind works Debi and to be honest, one cant blame Kevin Harvick for exploring all options.  He's seen the success that another fellow team owner has and he would be crazy not to want to join that.  A partnership with Stewart, added with the already ongoing relationship Stewart-Haas Racing has with Hendrick would be a major player in Nascar for many years.  Not only does Stewart have support from Hendrick in terms of engines but I think we would all be kidding each other if we didnt think there was any information being passed between the two "teams".  So, when you say super team, dont forget to add Jimmie Johnson, Jeff Gordon, Mark Martin and Dale Earnhardt Jr to Tony Stewart, Ryan Newman and maybe Kevin Harvick.  Together, those 7 would make a very formidable "organization"

Adding another team always tirns out well.  Just ask Richard Childress.

Will Tony also hire Harvick's Bodyguard/truckdriver?

The move might help to reverse Harvick's receding wins per year average, but what about his receding hairline?

I wasn't discounting Jeff, Jimmie, Mark or Dale Jr by any means.  I meant lumping those four together with Stewart, Newman and Harvick would create the superteam - a force the rest of the teams would be hard pressed to compete with, in my opnion.

And thanks for the compliment

I'm a Waltrip fan but I root for Tony all the time, he is a drivers driver

I am thinking your mind may have insider info..Seems not all far fetched to me!! My other hope would be for Childress to buy out DEI but I know I am dreaming there!

I would like to see Happy do better though, and SHR is definitely an upwardly mobile move!

Kevin is one of my fav drivers but has not had the best year. Pit crew is under par. If he jumped ship, I would understand. Danica? Not sure how that would work. From what I know of Kevin's ethics and standards, I doubt he would put up with her sometimes questionable behavior. I wouldnt. However, should we see the start of a new racing team, would that really be so bad???

Harvick aint the same as 4 years ago. His driving style may or may not of changed, but the equipment or engineering has at  RCR. They are just a top 10 finish team. The Stewart-Newman combination worked great. Now if they can bring Harvick to the stable that would benefit everyone. Ecspecially Stewart. HArvick has the cars for the other series. Which could be a research and development for other drivers and maybe a 4th team for Stewart in the future. Shell must be dedicated with Harvick and not RCR. If thats the case Shell should buy out his contract. I bet Truex might be kicking himself some!
