Chelsea’s new interim manager Rafael Benitez wants his side to take more risks. The Spaniard believes Chelsea needs to take its chances in order to record their first win under his rein.
Chelsea have been winless since the sacking of Roberto Di Matteo. West Ham United hammered Chelsea 3-1 on Saturday night, which means Roman Abramovich could sack the Spaniard although he has been asked to take care of the club till the end of the season.
So far Stamford Bridge has been eclipsed by Rafael Benitez’s sad and controversial arrival at Chelsea. Chelsea has recorded two draws and a defeat under his watch. Rafael Benitez’s winless tally and his differences with Chelsea fans have put him under great scrutiny ahead of their FA Cup campaign.
Roman Abramovich, the crazy billionaire Russian owner of Chelsea, brought Rafael Benitez to Chelsea forgetting the fact that he is one of the most hated figures in Chelsea circles. Rafael Benitez made rude comments about Chelsea back when he was the manager of Liverpool. Since then Chelsea and Liverpool has enjoyed a special rivalry with or without Rafael Benitez.
Rafael Benitez understands that he needs to bring wins to the table in order to win over the hearts of Chelsea fans. The Spaniard also admits Chelsea has recorded under par performances under his rein.
“To win, it’s simple,” Rafael Benitez said. “In the first half we just had to score more goals. We have to improve. We know that football has two halves, the game has two halves. In the first half we had two or three chances – we just need to score more goals.”
Chelsea’s star struck attacking line handed in another toothless performance against West Ham United. Rafael Benitez has yet to show creative mastery at Chelsea.
Fernando Torres drew another blank in front of the goal, although he did assist in Chelsea’s lone goal. It’s been more than 11 hours since Fernando Torres last scored a goal in the Premier League.
Rafael Benitez defended his former player while pointing out that Fernando Torres alone wasn’t responsible for Chelsea lack lustrous performance. Nonetheless, Rafael Benitez can’t hide the fact that Fernando Torres has scored only 19 goals in 89 appearances with Chelsea.
“I thought the team had chances, not just Fernando,” Rafael Benitez said. “When you are attacking and you are controlling the game like we did in the first half, you have to score goals.”
