Rajon Rondo honors bombing survivors in final game of the season
Last night was the Celtics' final game in a rather abysmal and embarrassing season. Still, the team mostly accomplished their goal of tanking for a good draft pick, and they showed a lot of promise and improvement under rookie coach Brad Stevens.
It was also one day away from the anniversary of the Boston Marathon bombing of 2013. In that vein, Rajon Rondo decided to honor the victims with his sneakers, which will be auctioned off later with the proceeds going to The One Fund.
Rondo's sneakers feature the words "Boston Strong" on the tongue, with the bib number "41513," the date of the bombing. Also, the initials of all the victims (injuries, not just deaths) are all over the sneakers.
Unfortunately, Rondo wasn't able to actually play in the sneakers, thanks to a strained hamstring, but these are definitely a very special one-of-a-kind tribute, and a classy move by Rondo.
