49ers and Texans get embarrassed and the Falcons survive

I think we should hold up a little on all the 49ers and Texans Super Bowl talk, especially with both teams suffering embarrassing home losses Sunday. All week we heard about how the 49ers were going to get a measure of revenge against the Giants for last year's NFC Championship game. The Giants clearly had other ideas. I hate Eli Manning with a passion, but I would never bet against him.

How bad was Alex Smith?  Some people were actually writing about him being an elite quarterback in this league. As the great Lee Corso would say--not so fast my friend. Smith got exposed for zeroing in on one target. If you don't look off the safety--you will get picked.

Frank Gore really had just 8 carries? Do we need to worry about Harbaugh now thinking he's too smart for the NFL?  Now the second time this season the Niners took a beating when Gore doesn't do anything. It's all about play action and the running game for the Niners. If the running game isn't going then Smith to Vernon Davis suffers.

Looks like Aaron Rodgers found his swagger again. He and Jordy Nelson just destroyed a good Texans defense Sunday night. Texans are really going to miss Brian Cushing. And did the Packers create a blueprint for stopping Arian Foster and the Texans running game? Foster with 17 carries for just 29 yards.

I'm all smiles as a Bears fan right now. With the 49ers and Texans on the schedule in a few weeks, I was extremely nervous to play both teams. Now it appears they each have holes on both sides of the ball. Of course, the Bears have a giant hole--as in A**hole in Jay Cutler, but as long as the D continues to play the way they have, Jay can hopefully limit his mistakes to one per game and the Bears will keep winning.


Are the Falcons bored or the most mediocre 6-0 team in the history of football? You just can't allow the Raiders to have 474 total yards. Another last minute win for Matt Ryan aka Matty Ice, or based on his playoff history--Matty Ice cold. I just don't believe in the Falcons in a big spot, especially when playing outdoors in cold weather. However, as long as they continue to win, they won't have to worry about a road playoff game this year.

The Cowboys seem to invent new ways to lose games. Who doesn't enjoy their suffering? Well, besides Cowboy fans, of course.
