NBA Triple Threat: Your daily roundup of last night's action in the Association.New Jersey 129 Toronto 127 OT In probably the wildest game of the young NBA season, a Vince Carter bomb tied it at the end of regulation and a reverse dunk off an out of bounds alley-oop in OT (seen to the right) gave the Nets a 2 points win over the Raptors (video below). Carter led the way for the Nets with 39 points and he needed every single one of them to combat Chris Bosh's 42 points. It is the second time in his last three games Bosh scored 40 or more. Toronto fans now have another reason to hate Vince Carter besides basically quitting on them to force a trade, he now plays like a mad man when he faces his former team.
Philadelphia 89 LA Clippers 88 Elton Brand's first game against his former team ended with him hitting the game winner...with 57 seconds left. Brand hit a 15 footer and the Sixers were able to hold on for the last 57 seconds to get the close victory over the shorthanded Clippers. Thaddeus Young added 17 points while Andre Iguodala added 14 points and 12 assists. Al Thorton led the way for the Clippers with 22 and Baron Davis chipped in 18. The Sixers are 6-6 on the season and look no where near the team we thought they would be heading into the season. I mean, when you can only beat the Clippers, who didn't have Cuttino Mobley or Tim Thomas who were dealt to New York, by one point at home, then you are a pretender in my book. The Clippers stay on pace for that 3-79 season so lets keep our fingers crossed on that one.
Orlando 100 Indiana 98 OT Dwight Howard is the league leader in blocked shots, I guess Indiana didn't know that. Three times the Pacers tried to go at him to get the winning or tying basket, and three times Howard turned them away. First at the end of regulation, Rasho Nesterovic (said in my Stephen A Smith voice) thought he could go to the basket for the game winning layup, and Howard blocked that. Then Troy Murphy thought he could get a layup late in the OT to take the lead, and Howard pinned it on the backboard with two hands so hard he was icing him thumb after the game. Finally, with the Magic up two, T.J. Ford somehow ended up with Howard on him and his baseline leaning jumper was altered by Howard and the Magic got the victory. Howard finished the game with 24 points, 17 rebounds, and 5 blocks. Rashard Lewis added 23 for the Magic as they won their fifth straight win overall and fourth straight on the road.
