Rashard Lewis Is Headed to the Orlando Magic and Then Straight to the Bank (5 yr, around $80M)
As we suspected yesterday, Rashard Lewis has told the Orlando Magic he plans to accept their Free Agent offer when the signing period begins.

The deal is said be around 5 years for $80 million. Too much? At about $16 a year that seems high, but would you rather have Rashard Lewis or Vince Carter? I'll take Lewis in a millisecond.

When you consider this instantly makes the Magic a contender in the East, it's far from overpaying. I know Stephon Marbury would like to believe the Knicks are to be feared, but the reality is that the Magic now have a freaky inside-out combo. Are Dwight Howard and Lewis now the best tandem in the East?

Agree that I would rather have Lewis than VC.  Not even close.

That being said, I don't think that Lewis is a true "Max" player in terms of being the dominant guy.  That's ok on this team as Howard is.

Ditto on the Lewis over VC.

I also agree about Lewis not being a max, dominant guy. While Howard may be such a guy, I don't know if he'll ever be a great scorer in the league. Lewis can enjoy lighting up the East with Howard getting attention in the post (and he'll open things up for Howard).

I don't think Seattle is wild about their pg situation, and I was thinking w/o Lewis they may go for Mo Williams. They'd have to trade Watson or Ridnour; neither of those guys deserves to be as low as 3rd on the depth chart.

True Hoop was talking about them saving money for later, which may be the better option for now.

Had a crazy thought. How rough would it be on Magic fans if Lewis, between now and July 11, decides not to sign with Orlando?

High profile coach signs with team, then gets out of contract; top free-agent agrees to deal, then changes mind...

Oh man ... you found something I want to happen more than the Knicks signing Artest. I have nothing against the Magic, but that would be something else.

Yeah. It's not that I'm predicting it; it would just be, as CF said, "something else."

Lewis is way better at this stage in the game because of age but if VC was rashar's age no doubt VC.

The magic were a 8 seed in the playoffs last year with Howard and Nelson leading the team and Lewis gives the magic that middle man in between Center and Point Gaurd at Small Forward. He won't be the threat that they pay him but every team in the league wouldn't mind having Lewis on there team as he is a big help for a average .500 team winning percentage and i hope that will be higher as i'm a Orlando Magic fan.
