Ray Rice has pleaded not guilty to aggravated assault charges in New Jersey, and is asking for a pretrial intervention program, which would allow him to avoid a trial altogether.

According to ESPN, the prosecution has already offered a plea deal which would result in no jail time, but only probation and anger management counseling for Rice.

He appeared at the courtroom with his wife Janay Palmer, who was the alleged victim of his assault, and was his fiancée at the time. They were married a day after the incident.

It looks like Rice will most likely get off with a slap on the wrist at the absolute most, despite some rather damning video evidence.

The NFL has yet to act, however, and it's possible that their punishment could be worse than whatever the legal system gives to Rice.
